Hopfield have been given this award for their remarkable contribution on Artificial Neural Network. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has announced the Nobel Prize for the contribution of both in the field of Artificial Intelligence.

Geoffrey Hinton has thanked the Nobel Committee after receiving this award. I was going to get an MRI scan today, but I think now it will have to be cancelled. He is 76 years old.

Started work in the 80s
