In such a situation, when an Indian returns home after traveling abroad, he wants to take gold jewellery with him, because the price of gold in some countries including Dubai is cheaper than in India. But there are some responsibilities associated with buying gold from foreign land which every Indian should know.
How much jewellery can I bring along without paying any fee
As per the rules, an Indian traveller who has been abroad for more than a year is allowed to bring in duty-free jewellery up to 20 grams in his/her carry-on baggage worth up to Rs 50,000/- (in case of a gentleman traveller) or up to 40 grams of jewellery worth up to Rs 1,00,000/- (in case of a female traveller).
If travellers coming to India carry gold jewellery beyond the prescribed limit, they will have to pay some customs duty on the gold. Also, children who have been abroad for more than a year can carry tax-free gold jewellery from Dubai. However, they cannot carry gold coins, bars or biscuits.
How much customs duty has to be paid
Indian travelers bringing gold from Dubai to India should keep in mind that the duty-free allowance applies only to gold jewelry. According to the bayut, customs duty for gold bars, coins and other jewelry is determined based on the quantity imported. 10% customs duty on gold bars weighing less than 1 kg
3% customs duty on gold bars weighing 20 grams to 100 grams
No customs duty on gold bars weighing less than 20 grams
10% duty on gold coins weighing 20 grams to 100 grams

No customs duty is levied on jewellery if the weight does not exceed 20 grams and the value is less than Rs 50,000

Carry all relevant documents, such as purchase receipts or invoices, to prove the value and authenticity of your gold. To avoid customs duties, keep the value of gold within the duty-free limit set for your gender and duration of stay abroad.
